Buffalo Sabres Promo

Ah, the grunge look of the 90s. This spot was one of many concepts I had to produce to promote the Buffalo Sabres hockey games on Empire Sports Network. We shot several in this style with different players.

I used a handheld DVC-Pro camera to shoot a series of shots around each player standing at center ice. I then exported a number of these shots as stills and built them into a composition in After Effects where the dirty film look and fisheye lens distortion was added. The resulting playback gave the impression of a camera whirling endlessly around the player. This look was actually inspired by QuickTime VR, which was relatively new at the time.

Additional elements were created in Strata Studio Pro and Adobe Photoshop, and the final composite edit was performed on an Accom Stratasphere.
